Troubleshoot Garage Door Openers

There are quite a few issues that could arise and would be the reason for why a garage door opener stops working. In some cases, it is issues within the garage door opener that are the root of the issue, but in some situations, it could be something different impacting the opener system. It is important to ensure garage door opener concerns are dealt with so that they do not lead to damage or even injury. If you do need help in identifying the cause of the problem with a garage door opener – and fixing it – we recommend calling an experienced garage door company. We are an experienced company that provides garage door opener installation, repair and other services (www.lawrencetownshipgaragedoorrepair.com).

The garage door opener should typically work using a remote control, keypad or button. If anything is not working then the issue could be within the remote control or keypad rather than the opener system itself. Is it a dead battery? Power issue? If these are things that you have not checked, then we recommend taking a look at the motor unit. Ensure it is properly plugged in. Another part to check is the circuit breaker or the fuse, as they could cause a short circuit with the opener, which is especially true if they have been tripping. You can call a garage door company if service is needed.

Safety Sensor, Limit Switch Issue
When you use the opener, does the garage door close but reopen when you do not want it to? Does the garage door just not close altogether? This could point to the limit switch. This is a part that makes the motor run in order to operate the garage door. In some cases, it can be reset. This would entail adjusting the switch. With the switch being sensitive, though, it is important not to turn it too much. Another issue could be a safety sensor. The safety sensor is a very important feature but it could be the cause of the garage door not properly closing. Safety sensors might need to be realigned, cleaned, or perhaps there is something in their path. The sensors will alert the opener to stop running if they sense something in their way. These issues can be somewhat easy to determine because often there is some sort of alert that something is off, for instance, the sensors have a light that will flash. Another part to check for debris and dirt are the rollers. If you cannot properly, smoothly close the garage door using the opener system, these are some components to check out.
The garage door might close but reverse before it even completely shuts. This could be due to different issues, but it is our recommendation that you inspect the garage door opener and change the opener settings (but do this slowly and with caution) by lessening its sensitivity. Perhaps rusted rollers were causing a problem, so be sure to maintain and clean the rollers to prevent this from happening.

Out of Range from the Opener
Why else might the garage door opener not work correctly when using the remote or wall switch? It could be that you are not in range. If you are out of the opener’s range then this could certainly cause a problem. You can attempt to move closer to the opener and make sure that the antenna on the motor unit is downward facing. Make sure it is not showing any indication of damage, either. If you are able to open the garage door via the wall switch but not with the remote, new batteries might be in order. However, in other situations, it could be that a keypad or another electrical component is having an issue with programming, warranting things to be reset. The opener manual might provide guidance, or you can call a mobile garage door company to do an inspection and to provide a solution!
Weather Changes
Weather changes can have an impact on the way a garage door opener works (or does not work), especially as temperatures drop. Do you find that when it is very cold the garage door opens less smoothly than usual? It could be because of the rollers or tracks. Some parts can stiffen in the cold and impact the functioning of the garage door opener system. In some cases, all you have to do is adjust the sensitivity of the garage door opener. Sometimes, this will solve the issue. Lubricating the rollers might help, too. Whenever a question arises or the need for garage door service or maintenance, we recommend calling an experienced garage door company. ((609) 357-9346).

Another issue we want to mention is this – in some cases, the motor might keep running when you use the garage door opener. When you use the garage door opener this can be noticeable right away in some cases. What might happen is the motor keeps running even once the garage door has completely opened. Or it could be that the motor shuts off but the garage door has not fully opened. The limit switch might need adjustment. It might need to be moved closer to the motor unit. If the garage door won’t open completely, move it closer to the unit; if it opens but the opener keeps running, move it away from the motor unit.
